Gearing Up for Our Summer Interns

Gearing Up for Our Summer Interns

We love summer for its long days, warm weather, and relaxing beach excursions. For us, summer is also the busiest season, as Hilton Head Island attracts visitors from near and far to enjoy our Lowcountry splendor. That means we’re renting a lot of bikes and bike accessories, while maintaining our customers’ personal bikes, guiding bike tours, and just being an overall resource for local and visiting riders.

We increase our staff during these busy months through our internship program, and we’re already excited to welcome this year’s nine recruits.

Launched more than seven years ago, the program has seen more than 70 young people take part, and a third of them have earned college credit for their work with us. The internship benefits include housing, a full-time job, and entrepreneurship coaching.

This program gives us the ability to keep things rolling for everyone who needs us during summer. For the interns, the program offers the chance to learn about running a business in an industry they are passionate about – cycling.

This year’s interns will be heading our way in mid-May. Look out for more information about who is joining us and what they love about Hilton Head. Be sure to say hello to them when you stop by the shop!

Spring to Early Summer on Hilton Head: What to Do Right Now

Spring to Early Summer on Hilton Head: What to Do Right Now

As Hilton Head eases into its sunniest stretch of the year, the island shifts into full swing. Warmer days, longer evenings, and a steady lineup of events make this the moment to get out and make the most of it.

Spring’s soundtrack is already lined up, starting with a run of live shows featuring our own Jim Hall. The Chilly Willy crew will be making the rounds with their signature mix of jazz, blues, and classic rock—catch them at the Black Marlin on May 2 and June 5, or head to HHP Community Park on May 3 for an outdoor set. They’ll also bring the energy to Local Legend on May 8 and June 12.

If you’re looking to switch things up, make plans for April 29 at Kind of Blue, where WGB takes the stage with a lively set of crowd-favorite covers.

If you’re in the mood for a night indoors (with air conditioning and a standing ovation), the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina delivers. “Hairspray: The Broadway Musical” takes the stage in late April and runs into May, followed by special appearances like mentalist Matt Cooper and a summer production of “Mean Girls: The Musical.”

Looking to slow things down a bit? Step into the island’s deeper history with a Gullah Heritage Trail Tour. These guided experiences offer a meaningful look at the culture, language, and traditions of the Gullah people—an essential part of the Lowcountry story. Tours run most days and provide a perspective you won’t find just strolling the beach.

You can continue that thread at the Coastal Discovery Museum, where hands-on programs, from Lowcountry reptiles to kids story time, bring the island’s ecology and heritage into focus. It’s the kind of place where you might plan a quick visit and end up staying for hours.

By Memorial Day weekend, evenings belong to the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town. The Gregg Russell Summer Concerts return, drawing families and longtime visitors alike for singalongs that have become a Hilton Head tradition.

For something a little more creative, the Sea Pines Beach Club hosts tie-dye sessions throughout the summer. Whether it’s a T-shirt or a bandana for your four-legged companion, it’s an easygoing way to make a colorful souvenir.

And for the adults, there’s always the option to raise a glass. A tour and tasting at the Hilton Head Distillery offers a behind-the-scenes look at rum production, with the bonus of sampling the finished product. If you’re feeling ambitious, the mixology classes take things a step further.

Of course, no matter what’s on your schedule, one activity never goes out of season here. With miles of scenic paths and ocean breezes built in, biking remains the easiest and arguably best way to take it all in. Whether you’re renting a cruiser or setting off on an e-bike tour, it’s the kind of experience that turns a good day into a great one.

Extend Your Ride When You Rent an Electric Bike

Extend Your Ride When You Rent an Electric Bike

The beauty of biking around Hilton Head is one of the biggest reasons visitors come to the island. Lowcountry beaches and more than 60 miles of bike paths make this a haven for vacationers from groups of festive friends to couples and families.

When you’re ready to take your Hilton Head vacation to the relaxing max, don’t settle for any bike ride. Choose one that will ensure a smooth ride every time, that will extend your energy and put power behind each pedal. We’re referring to an electric bike of course.

If you’ve never ridden an electric bike, or e-bike, you might not realize that it’s just like riding a traditional bike but with more kick just when you need it. Every pedal is worth more, and you can ride longer and faster or even coast on the bike’s energy when you tire. An e-bike can also make sure everyone taking part in a group ride can keep up with wherever the road or path takes you.

We rent e-bikes, and we have many sizes to offer you effortless riding around Hilton Head. We only carry the best e-bike brands, and you can stop by for a test ride before you rent. Our e-bikes can accommodate accessories like kid carts and gear carts too.

Best of all, if you have a discount, promo code, or gift card, you can use it for e-bike rentals.

Now that you know, you won’t need to spend another vacation working up a sweat when you can cooly travel from one end of the island to the other with super-human e-bike power.

Partnering With Pedal Hilton Head Island

Partnering With Pedal Hilton Head Island

At Hilton Head Bicycle, we’ll typically jump at any chance to ride around the Lowcountry. Once a year, that opportunity gets even better when it’s time for Pedal Hilton Head Island, the recreational charity ride that welcomes participants of all ages and levels to select a ride and set off with a group of like-minded locals and possibly some visitors too. Now in its 19th year, this event raises funds for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry, and we’re thrilled to be a Sprint level sponsor in 2026.

This fun one-day event, held on Sunday, May 3, lets bikers explore Hilton Head Island and Bluffton while supporting the work of the Boys & Girls Club. It includes multiple routes, so participants can choose from the Family Fun & Club Kids Rides of about 2 miles to the Metric Century ride that covers 62 miles in three to four hours and lots of other options in between. The rides are escorted to keep everyone on the same track. Ramping up the already scenic local landscapes, the routes take riders into private communities usually off-limits to individuals but offering some of the best views around.

As a Sprint sponsor, we’re making sure more kids can join the 2-mile family ride, including those who are part of the Boys & Girls Club crew. So we’re bringing 80 bikes for folks to borrow and plenty of kids helmets to keep them safe. We’ll be onsite getting bike borrowers properly fitted before they hit the road.

Pedal Hilton Head Island has long been a cornerstone event for the Boys & Girls Club, working to keep children on the path to academic success. This year, riders can choose from multiple routes on Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, and all participants are invited to a post-ride meal and refreshments.

Be sure to register soon and choose your package and route. This is a recreational ride, not a race, so whatever biking level you and your loved ones have, you can all make it a fun way to spend time together doing something good for our community.

How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Hilton Head Island

How to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Hilton Head Island

Each March, Hilton Head Island trades its usual coastal calm for a burst of Irish-inspired celebration. Locals and visitors alike gather for a weekend filled with lively parades, music, and plenty of green attire as the community comes together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in true Lowcountry style.

Why wait until the big day to get into the St. Patrick’s spirit? The festivities actually begin earlier in the weekend. On Friday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m., make your way to Oyster Factory Park for the Bluffton St. Patrick’s Sunset Block Party. This lively waterfront celebration features live music from The Horan Brothers Band and Chilly Willy Band, featuring our own Jim Hall, setting the perfect tone for a fun evening along the May River.

On Sunday, March 15, the island hosts the 40th-annual Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the oldest of its kind in the state. Beginning at 2 p.m., the parade travels along Pope Avenue and draws crowds of around 25,000 spectators. Expect colorful floats, energetic marching bands, and plenty of festive cheering from the sidelines. And of course, wearing green is practically mandatory unless you’re hoping to test the old legend about mischievous leprechauns and pinching.

Whether you’re watching the parade, dancing to live music, or simply soaking up the festive atmosphere, St. Patrick’s Day in the Hilton Head area is always worth celebrating.

May the luck of the Irish be with you!
