Each March, Hilton Head Island trades its usual coastal calm for a burst of Irish-inspired celebration. Locals and visitors alike gather for a weekend filled with lively parades, music, and plenty of green attire as the community comes together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in true Lowcountry style.
Why wait until the big day to get into the St. Patrick’s spirit? The festivities actually begin earlier in the weekend. On Friday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m., make your way to Oyster Factory Park for the Bluffton St. Patrick’s Sunset Block Party. This lively waterfront celebration features live music from The Horan Brothers Band and Chilly Willy Band, featuring our own Jim Hall, setting the perfect tone for a fun evening along the May River.
On Sunday, March 15, the island hosts the 40th-annual Hilton Head Island St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the oldest of its kind in the state. Beginning at 2 p.m., the parade travels along Pope Avenue and draws crowds of around 25,000 spectators. Expect colorful floats, energetic marching bands, and plenty of festive cheering from the sidelines. And of course, wearing green is practically mandatory unless you’re hoping to test the old legend about mischievous leprechauns and pinching.
Whether you’re watching the parade, dancing to live music, or simply soaking up the festive atmosphere, St. Patrick’s Day in the Hilton Head area is always worth celebrating.
May the luck of the Irish be with you!

When looking to rev up their biking experience, serious riders know that mountain biking offers new challenges and speaks to that sense of adventure so many of us have. But what should a biker do when there are no mountains to be had? Does that mean you’ll miss out on this experience that combines an adrenaline-pumping ride with the beauty of nature?
Not at all, according to Jim.
Despite its lack of mountains or even hills, Hilton Head Island offers bikers plenty of excellent options for taking a ride off-road and enjoying the thrill of nature rushing by. To make it possible, we carry hybrid bikes and gravel bikes – both perfect for tackling multiple types of surfaces. These bikes can take you from the street to the dirt and most places in between.
To get your heart racing, here are four local trails where a mountain bike-style adventure is still possible for anyone who dares.
Bristol Park
Scenic, rustic trails here offer a seriously nature-inspired ride. Although Bristol Park wouldn’t be considered difficult terrain, you’ll love the hard-packed gravel trail with minor elevation changes. You’ll spot the trailhead just behind the skate park.
Sea Pines Forest Preserve
This maritime forest and marshland preserve was founded by Charles Fraser, and you’ll find plenty of track for riding – in fact, 15 miles of paths. However, note that bicycles are not allowed on nature trails.
Pinckney Island
Take it up a notch when you head to Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge. With its miles of gravel and grass trails, this retreat from the street gives riders the true off-road sensation. Even e-bikes are permitted for riding groups with mixed levels and interests.
Crossings Park
Just at the end of Arrow Road where Hilton Head Bicycle Company is located, you’ll find the 74-acre Crossings Park. A wooded area with numerous trails, you can hit the dirt here and stop to read the educational signage anytime you need a water break.
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop
Best of all some of these trails are connected, like Bristol Park and Crossings Park, so if you are looking for a longer ride, you can just keep pedaling. Need more direction? Check out our maps + resources and get to know the whole island.

Whether you’re jumping on for a leisurely ride or enjoying a healthier commute, an e-bike offers you a variety of advantages. Biking has long been touted for its fitness benefits and for being an eco-friendly method of transportation. Bicycles first appeared and evolved throughout the 19th century, so that by around 1885, the “rover” bike had been invented and significantly resembled the bicycle of today with two identically sized wheels and a drive chain.
So bikes have a long history, but in the last couple of decades, they have undergone a new revolution with the invention and adaptation of the electric bike. With an electric bike, or e-bike, riders can go faster and farther, and in more mountainous areas then Hilton Head Island, can ascend hills with ease. These bikes have battery-run motors that assist with pedaling. But they don’t do all the work unless you want them to, allowing you to still experience the fun, freedom, and fitness of biking, just on a grander scale.
Buying a bike can be a big commitment, and when it comes to an e-bike, it might feel like you are riding into uncharted territory. That means it’s important to choose a reputable e-bike dealer who works only with reputable manufacturers. But how do you know which dealers and manufacturers those are?
To start, consider longevity. If you want your bike to last for a long time, head to a dealer who has been around for a long time. Think of it like building a lasting relationship. Not only will an established bicycle shop be there to help you in the future, but it will also be staffed by experienced bike enthusiasts who will have the knowledge to guide you on choosing your ideal e-bike. A reputable dealer will also stand by their sales by offering a local warranty, as well as and on-site maintenance and repair.
Working with a respected e-bike dealer will automatically take care of the second recommendation — selecting an e-bike from a reliable manufacturer. Good bike dealers will only sell products they can trust. They have already done the legwork in choosing only the best bike brands. One rule of thumb is to avoid getting an e-bike from a company that only launched recently. You can also look to manufacturers like Trek who have a strong track record of producing high-quality bikes and have added electric bikes to their mix of offerings. When you are ready to buy an e-bike or want to learn more about them, talk with our expert team members, who are here to answer your questions. And before you make the big leap, you can even rent an e-bike to really get to know what you like. Once you decide, you’ll be on the road to expanded horizons.

Chocolates, flowers, and bicycles – three ingredients to a perfect Valentine’s Day. Do we need to explain? Rather than giving the typical gifts this year, you can show someone just how much you care by thinking outside the (chocolate) box.
Start by booking a reservation that will create lasting memories. We’re not referring to a fancy dinner but to an e-bike tour. Choose from a tour that explores the history and natural environments of Hilton Head Island or one that will appeal to your more laid-back sweetheart, namely the beach bum tour. These two-hour guided experiences are sure to be more meaningful than another prix fixe menu. And if you want to treat someone from far away, gift cards are available for the tours too.
When you are more inclined to give a gift than an experience, treat your bicycle-loving babe to the latest bike accessories. During February, we’re offering a 10% discount on our wide range of accessories. We’re also extending free delivery and pick-up for rentals and repairs throughout the month. Whether you want to show someone how much they matter or give your bike some love, we’ve got you covered. Of course, wrapping up your Valentine’s Day celebration calls for sweets for your sweetie. Hilton Head offers plenty of stops along the way to find desserts and confections. For this holiday experience, we recommend the Chocolate Canopy, an Island staple for more than four decades. Don’t just choose chocolates in the shape of hearts when you can pick up some carved like alligators, flip flops, and starfish to honor your bike-friendly Valentine’s Day. Already planning ahead for next year? How about renting a tandem bike?

If winter has overstayed its welcome, Hilton Head Island offers the ideal spring reset, and it starts as early as March. Early spring brings mild, inviting weather, with March temperatures typically dipping to around 49 degrees at night and warming to the upper 60s during the day. By April, evenings settle comfortably into the mid-50s while daytime highs often climb into the 70s — everyone’s favorite weather for spending long days outside. Add longer daylight hours and fewer cloudy skies, and spring break suddenly feels a lot sunnier.
This is the season when Hilton Head truly invites you outdoors. It’s easy to trade heavy coats for bike helmets as you ride toward the beach, explore shaded pathways, or rediscover the simple joy of fresh air after months of winter routines.
Spring also marks the island’s most colorful transformation. In March, bright camellias and sunny daffodils signal the season’s arrival, while April turns up the volume with azaleas in full bloom, dogwoods lining the roads, and wildflowers dotting the landscape. Magnolia blossoms and jasmine perfume the air, turning even a casual bike ride into a sensory experience. On two wheels, it can feel like gliding through a botanical garden.
Spring is a sweet spot for activity, too. Crowds are lighter than in peak summer months, yet the island hums with energy. With more than 60 miles of bike paths, getting around by bike is both easy and enjoyable — whether you’re heading to the beach, a local landmark, a museum, or dinner.
And when it is time to eat, March brings its own seasonal highlight with the Hilton Head Wine & Food Festival, a perfect way to savor the mild weather and sample flavors from near and far. April continues the excitement with the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament, adding a lively buzz to the island and giving visitors another reason to linger outdoors.
Beyond biking, Hilton Head shines as an outdoor playground throughout the spring. Visitors can hike scenic trails, kayak quiet waterways, cast a fishing line, or tee off on one of the island’s many championship golf courses.
Families will find no shortage of ways to fill their days. Educational attractions, boat tours, interactive museums, and beloved live music traditions make it easy to entertain kids of all ages — sometimes all in the same afternoon.
One way to keep everything simple is to rent bikes during your visit. It removes the hassle of transporting gear and makes spontaneous adventures effortless. With options for every rider, plus accessories to accommodate younger riders, it’s an easy way to keep the whole family moving.
In short, spring break on Hilton Head has the perfect balance. From March’s early blooms and festival energy to April’s warmer days and iconic events, the weather is comfortable, the island is alive with color, and there’s room to explore without feeling rushed. Comfortable days, cool evenings, and endless ways to enjoy them — spring on Hilton Head hits just right.

Temperatures may dip in January, but on Hilton Head, winter is a relative term. Not only is snow a rarity in the Lowcountry, with Hilton Head Island getting a dusting just every four years or so, but average high temperatures come in at around 60 degrees, sometimes reaching into the 70s! What this means for Hilton Head residents and visitors is that even in the middle of winter, families will still find many opportunities to head out for a cool bike ride around the island.
To gather some ideas for where to go and what to do, we chatted with Hilton Head Bicycle Company co-owner Sue Hall, who is always in the know about the best family-friendly activities on Hilton Head Island.
Sue says, “Why not hop on two wheels and roll over to …”
The Sandbox Children’s Museum
This early childhood, hands-on play museum was founded more than 20 years ago with the goal of educating children through age-appropriate activities and interactive exhibits. This is where young kids can learn while they play, and parents can feel good about their choice. The Sandbox offers a variety of regular programs like STEAM time and DIG (Discover, Imagine Grow). In January, special events like Perler Pixel Art, Future Makers: 3D Design to Print, the Sock Puppet Workshop, and more enhance the experience.
Lawton Stables
A short bike ride to Sea Pines will get you to Lawton Stables, where visitors of all ages can rub shoulders with goats, pigs, alpacas, and other small critters in the Animal Farm or take a behind the scenes tour of the property. To take a break from pedaling, young children can enjoy a pony ride. Lawton Stables also offers one-hour guided Western-style trail rides into the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. For animal-loving families, this is a must-visit spot.
Sea Pines Forest Preserve
On horseback isn’t the only way to see the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. You can also bike though the easy 8-mile trail of this forest and marshland. In addition to simply enjoying the landscape during a time of dormancy, visitors will encounter sites like a 4,000-year-old Indian shell ring, freshwater lakes for fishing, and a bird habitat. Accommodations like restrooms and a picnic area make this nature-inspired outing comfortable for everyone.
Gregg Russell Harbour Town Playground
Before leaving Sea Pines, families can bike over to the Gregg Russell Harbour Town playground, named for everyone’s favorite family-friendly Sea Pines performer. Inspired by nature, the playground features a forest theme with tree houses, swings, slides, and climbing structures, including live oak trees. This sprawling playground is sure to bring out the kid in anyone.
There are plenty more places for families to bike on Hilton Head Island during January, from nature trails to public pathways. With its sunny skies and cooler air, you might just find winter in Hilton head to be your favorite season of all.
