It’s no secret that we talk up Hilton Head’s bike-friendly reputation often, and this island has the credentials to back it up. The League of American Bicyclists has recognized Hilton Head with Gold-Level Bicycle Friendly Community status. If you need more proof, look no further than the recent Bike-A-Palooza celebration held for Hilton Head Plantation residents.
The event brought together local bike shops, riding clubs, and plenty of two-wheeled fun for a full day dedicated to island cycling culture. Hilton Head Bicycle Company and the Bike Doctor both set up booths, giving attendees the chance to chat with mechanics, get a bike tune-up or safety check, find the right helmet fit, and try out demo bikes.
The turnout included familiar faces from the local riding community, including the Kickin’ Asphalt Bicycle Club and Hilton Head Plantation’s own Easy Rider and Chain Gang groups. Behind the scenes, Bike Walk Hilton Head Island, the organization championing bicycle safety, education, and access across the island, pulled the event together.
We’re already looking forward to the next one. Bike-A-Palooza was fun, informative, and a great reminder of why Hilton Head keeps earning its reputation as a top destination for cyclists.
