From parades to music to fireworks, Hilton Head Island knows how to celebrate the Fourth of July. Whether you prefer to get up early for a run, entertain the kids at a carnival, or look up to see something amazing – probably all of the above – the island has everything necessary to keep the whole family engaged from dawn to dusk.
Our recommendation is to plan your schedule and travel from one fun offering to the next on two wheels. On a cruiser or an e-bike, with kids pedaling away or relaxing in a bike trailer or tagalong, biking around Hilton Head on the Fourth of July adds an extra layer of fun to summer’s biggest day.
Kick off your celebration early by checking out the seasoned musicianship and a laid-back style of the Chilly Willy Band at The Black Marlin on July 3. Our own Jim Hall will be on the stage! You can also catch Chilly Willy (minus Jim) at Local Legends on July 4.
In the morning, start your Fourth off right at the Hilton Head Firecracker 5K, the island’s oldest and largest race. This is a family-friendly run (or walk) that follows a scenic tour around the island and includes medals, prizes, and the Most Patriotic Dressed Award. Afterwards, stick around for music and food trucks.
Next up, it’s time for the Harbour Town Fourth of July Parade. Don’t just watch — be an active participant. You can decorate your bike, wagon, dog, and each other, then join in this fun celebration. This year’s parade will be led by Woody the Clydesdale, and along the way, you’ll encounter classic entertainment. Stay to enjoy the carnival after the parade.
Just after lunch, head to the beach to catch the Salute from the Shore, featuring F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base. This military flyover of the South Carolina east coast is your chance to wave a flag from the beach and be part of a public salute to honor the armed forces.
In the evening, you won’t want to miss Gregg Russell’s special Fourth of July Concert under the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town. An annual tradition for many, many years, this musical event is perfect for all ages.
Before heading to the fireworks, look up to witness a special flyover from Lincoln the bald eagle. Known for appearances in Philadelphia, this winged patriot will travel from the Harbour Town Lighthouse to the Harbour Town Golf Links. Don’t miss this special appearance that marks the 250th anniversary of the United States and raises awareness for wildlife conservation.
For fireworks, you have a couple of great options. Harbour Town in Sea Pines will decorate the sky above the lighthouse, and you’ll also find food and live music. Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina offers fireworks over Broad Creek paired with live entertainment from Shannon Tanner and Cappy the Clown.
