For generations of Hilton Head residents and visitors, one name is synonymous with outdoor music and family fun – Gregg Russell. In fact, Gregg is so well-known and well-regarded on the island, that he was recently inducted into the Hilton Head Island Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame is an initiative by the Rotary Club of Hilton Head that honors the people who have made enduring contributions to the community. Last month, 10 local stalwarts were celebrated as Pillars, those whose activities and accomplishments have upheld the ideals of the Founders and have been instrumental in making Hilton Head Island what it is today.
Speaking of instrumental, it was no surprise that Gregg Russell was chosen as one of these Pillars. He’s been performing live music here for more than four decades. Best known for his seasonal performances under the old Liberty Oak in Harbour Town in the Sea Pines Resort, Gregg has brought cheer to more than 3 million fans. In fact, when his name comes up, most island residents and visitors of a certain age will reminisce about attending his concerts in their youth then bringing their own children and maybe their children’s children to hear him perform.
During spring and summer, with special shows for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Gregg offers his unique blend of games, sing-a-longs, and entertainment that brings out the kid in everyone. Many islanders have taken the Bubble Gum Pledge with Gregg, and no one can forget the enjoyment of a pleasant night under the tree just relaxing and swaying to the music.

Edward “Ed” Pinckney and Walter M. Greer. We appreciate everything the Pillars do to make Hilton Head Island a great place to live, a wonderful place to visit, and an ideal community for biking!
